Pioneer, Pillar of Strength: Jeanie Ruedy

Today we learned that the Immediate Past Governor of the Tenth District of the American Advertising Federation, Jeanie Ruedy, passed away. While most members of the American Advertising Federation of Shreveport-Bossier have never met Jeanie, it's imperative that you know who she is and what kind of AAF D10 leader she was.

Jeanie Ruedy hailed from Oklahoma City where she was on the AAF OKC board for 18 years. Most recently she was the Immediate Past Governor of the Tenth District of the American Advertising Federation. She was also one of the most selfless, caring, dedicated people I had ever met.

Being 84 years old, didn't slow Jeanie down. She still attended ever district conference, convention, board meeting and phone call for AAF D10. Every one! No lie. Her wit was as sharp as a tack and her sense of humor never failed. She was an advocate for students entering the advertising world and wanted them to succeed so much that she created and funded her own scholarship them! The money to fund it was completely her own. She loved mentoring young ad professionals and exposing them to the AAF way of life.

In the summer of 2016, she gave me the chance to step up onto the D10 Executive Committee as the Louisiana State Rep for the district. I wasn't sure what all the job entailed and was pretty nervous about taking the role on. She quickly calmed my fears by telling me if I ever needed anything or had questions, I was welcome to call her personally.

Once I was in the role, I got to know Jeanie even better. Her kindness and warmth could make anyone feel at ease. But more than anything, she showed me that paying it forward to the students of our field is probably the best use of my time. Because of Jeanie, I've tried to be even more involved with the students in our local AAF student chapter at LSUS.

In honor of Jeanie, please consider a donation to the Advertising Education Scholarship, so we can continue her legacy of mentoring the youth of tomorrow.

Love you always, Jeanie,
Erin Smith, AAFSB President 2017-2018
