A Jam-Packed May

Erin Smith

May is jam-packed with cool stuff for AAFSB!

May is jam-packed with cool stuff for AAFSB!

This month is FULL of activities for the American Advertising Federation of Shreveport-Bossier!

First off, we are having our first-ever discounted membership drive. Anyone who joins this month, gets 10% off their annual membership! Students, professionals, corporate members: EVERYONE!

Secondly, we're also currently seeking applicants for the Jim Leslie Memorial Scholarship. The deadline is May 30th, and the scholarship recipient will be announced in mid-June. Visit our SCHOLARSHIP page for all the details.

Third, we're hosting our annual board member recruitment get-together on May 17th at Pizza Rev on Line Avenue at 6:30. If you've ever been interested in joining the board or a committee, or just want to know more about what we do, you're invited! Also, don't be intimidated by the idea of being on a "board of directors." We're a fun group who gets stuff done! Plus we and the district will train you! No worry necessary!

Fourth, we're gearing up to start our new board year (hence the recruitment social), and I'll soon be passing the torch to the ever-capable Amy Jones of Romph & Pou Agency. I have no doubt that AAFSB will be in good hands with her at the helm.

Fifth, we're also trying to spread the word about the upcoming Advent10n convention that we'll be hosting April 4-7, 2019 at the Shreveport Convention Center. This conference will have mega keynotes and fantastic breakouts, as well as play host to the district-level of competition for the National Student Advertising Competition. We'll be showing off Shreveport-Bossier to our advertising friends from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and the rest of Louisiana. Stay tuned for more information on that, so you can get preregistered or help us with the convention!

As you can see, AAFSB is bubbling with excitement this May, and I'm excited to see the next chapter of awesome-sauce that the new board will invoke.

In service,
Erin Smith, president of AAFSB 2016-2018
